Mentor Appreciation Day with Dr. Acar Baltaş
The TurkishWIN mentoring program matches TurkishWINners with peer-to-peer, senior-to-junior, Diaspora-Turkey, or local-local mentor/mentee connections. So far in our mentoring program, we have more than 450 matches with 170+ mentors. We celebrate our mentors with Mentor Appreciation Days, to thank to our mentors for their continued support and investment in our sisterhood network for change!
Our most recent mentor appreciation event was with Dr. Acar Baltaş, a leadership guru, author, management consultant, academician and psychologist. In his speech on “Women Leadership”, Dr. Baltas shared that women have two main problems in worklife: being evaluated by a jury consisting of men and copying male leadership traits when managing a team. He recommended that we read the “Athena Doctrine” by John Gerzema as a powerful resource to learn more about women leadership traits.

Dr. Baltas said the two things he had learned from leading teams are:
- No high performance comes from staying in your comfort zone
- Learning from mistakes are crucial.
Most importantly, Dr. Baltas taught us that there is no such thing as an “uber woman.” We have to choose our priorities and honor the outcomes that come from the choices we make.

We held this cozy event in one of the distinctive design hotels of Istanbul, The House Residence Bomonti. We thank The House Residence Bomonti for hosting us.
